Import into Qatar
Since January 2019, the import regulations for pets arriving into Qatar have tightened as a part of wider measures introduced by the Ministry of Environment to monitor the animal population in Qatar. Pets travelling to Qatar must be at least 4 months old, microchipped (on or before the Rabies vaccine), fully vaccinated including boosters (Rabies + DHPPiL for dogs and Rabies + RCP for cats) and have undergone the Rabies Antibody Titre Test (RATT / RNATT / FAVN). There is no waiting or quarantine period once the Rabies Antibody Titre Test (RATT / RNATT / FAVN) has been done if the result received is acceptable (>= 0.5 IU/ML) and the RATT / RNATT / FAVN was conducted within 12 months of travel at an approved laboratory. All pets coming to Qatar must also be registered with the Ministry of Environment, Department of Animal Resources within 48 hours of arrival.
A vast majority of countries allow pets to travel with their owners as Excess Baggage in the Aircraft Hold. Under this option, your pet will travel with you on the same flight in the aircraft’s luggage hold. Hence, it is your responsibility as the owner to ensure your pet is booked onto your Airline ticket as Special Baggage. To book your pet’s flight, you will need to first book your own ticket with the airline. Once your ticket is confirmed, you will then have to contact the airline and provide them the following information to book your pet: - Your Flight Booking Reference number - Your Email address registered with the airline - Your Contact details registered with the airline - Your Loyalty/Privilege membership number (if applicable) - Your Passport details - Pet’s Breed (as mentioned in the Vaccination Card/Passport) - Pet’s Weight (as current as possible) - Pet’s IATA approved travel crate dimensions (Length x Width x Height in cms) - Pet’s IATA approved travel crate weight Different airlines have different regulations. Hence, we always recommend contacting the airline as soon as your travel plans are confirmed to ensure you have sufficient time to book you pet as Special Baggage.
